The Maine Lighthouse Trust has announced the launch of their campaign for Maine’s first specialty lighthouse license plate.
Under the program, already approved by the Maine Secretary of State, the Maine Lighthouse Trust is required to initially sell 2000 of the lighthouse license plates ahead of time to active Maine registered vehicles in order to get final approval from the State Legislature.
The cost of the lighthouse license plates are $25.00 each and the Maine Lighthouse Trust will receive $10.00 from the initial purchase of the plates and $10.00 from each renewal. The Maine Lighthouse Trust will then distribute funds to lighthouse groups in Maine to be used for restoration, education, and preservation. It is estimated that the plate could raise in excess of $200,000 a year for lighthouse causes.
