In the days of the U.S. Lighthouse Service, it was not uncommon for the lighthouse tenders while on their voyages to bring supplies to the lighthouses to have guests on board the vessel. As well as the Lighthouse Inspector being one of those passengers, it was not uncommon for the captain of the tender to bring along family members.
Shown here on board the U.S. Lighthouse Service Lighthouse Tender Manzanita in 1910 is Captain Charles Richardson with his son Lee holding the ship’s telescope. It is interesting to note that Lee Richardson was also wearing his own Lighthouse Service jacket and hat.
The Manzanita served in the waters of the West Coast of the United States.
