This past August, Canada’s 1878 Cape Jourimain Lighthouse in Cape Tormentine, New Brunswick was successfully moved approximately 200 feet away from the eroding shoreline and to safety.
When the lighthouse was first built it was approximately 400 feet further out to sea, and has since been moved three times when each time the eroding shoreline forced its move.
Now that the lighthouse has been moved and placed atop its new foundation, plans are underway to fully restore the lighthouse and install an interpretive center on the first floor honoring the four generations of the Bent family who were lighthouse keepers at the Cape Jourimain Lighthouse, three of whom all had the same first name of Arthur.
