Nova Scotia’s Gabarus Lighthouse is in imminent danger tumbling into the water. In fact, the 31-foot tall 1890 lighthouse, which is now only seven feet from the edge of the bluff, is already showing signs of leaning.

The group that wants to save the lighthouse has been awarded $50,000, but they can’t touch the money until the Canadian government transfers control of the lighthouse to them which it won’t do unless the local group has insurance, and the insurance company won’t give them insurance unless they control the lighthouse.

The local community is making every type of appeal possible saying that strong fall rains could easily be the demise of the lighthouse. In one recent rain storm, five feet of ground was lost.
