The Port San Luis Obispo may not be one of the most famous lighthouses, nor may it have great stories of heroism, or ghosts associated with it, but it is truly one of the more beautiful light stations.
Established in 1890 near Avila Beach, California, it is also known as the Point Harford Lighthouse and the San Luis Obispo Lighthouse. The lighthouse had a head keeper and two assistant keepers who lived in the beautiful structures that were built at the site.
The light station was deactivated in 1975 and ownership was transferred to the Port San Luis Harbor District. Over the years, dedicated volunteers have made immense progress in restoring the property.
Following is a brief time capsule of photographs of the lighthouse.
