The historic Faro Blanco Lighthouse in Marathon, Florida has been brought back to life as part of the grand opening of the Faro Blanco Resort and Yacht Club.
Exactly when the lighthouse facsimile in Marathon, Florida was first built is a little sketchy, but we do know that it was severely damaged by Hurricane Donna in 1960 and either rebuilt or repaired at that time. At some point it became a private aid to navigation. Disaster hit the lighthouse again when the structure was severely damaged by Hurricane Wilma in 2005.
Now thanks to the folks at the Faro Blanco Resort and Yacht Club the historic structure has been restored and a new lantern room was hoisted atop the structure this past November. The marina surrounding the lighthouse tower is entirely new with 74 wet slips with full service including fuel and pump-out services available. The lighthouse is expected to again become a private aid to navigation. Additional information is available on their web site at www.faroblanco.com.
