The Lighthouse Tender Azalea.

The unidentified person we listed as a mystery keeper on page 33 of the last edition (March/April issue) of Lighthouse Digest has been identified. It turns out the man was not a lighthouse keeper after all, which is something we should have realized, because there was no keeper insignia on his jacket lapel.

He has been identified as George Frederick Monahan, Sr., which was substantiated through another same image, which was not hand colored, and by his daughter-in-law Helen Monahan.

George Frederick Monahan, Sr. served with the United States Lighthouse Service on the lighthouse tenders Azalea and Anemone from March 3, 1918 to January 24, 1930. Another slice of lighthouse history has been saved and preserved for future generations.
