In the days when the Virginia's Old Point Comfort Lighthouse was still a family light station, the holidays were celebrated much the same as they were in other homes on the mainland. However, the work of a lighthouse keeper, even during modern times still went on, regardless of the holiday.
Today, the tower at Old Point Comfort Lighthouse is still owned by the Coast Guard, however, the U.S. Army, as part of Fort Monroe, which is soon scheduled to be closed, owns the keeper's house.
Although we don't yet know the year these photographs were taken, or even what magazine they appeared in, we thought we would share them with you, a Christmas past, a family Christmas at a lighthouse that may never again experience family life for the holidays.
