If things go according to the plan of the Delaware Division of Cultural Affairs and the Delaware River and Bay Authority, the old Delaware Breakwater Light may soon come alive with activity.
The 1885 lighthouse received some renovations by the Coast Guard in 1992, however it was declared obsolete a few years later, when it was decommissioned in 1996.
Future plans call for opening the lighthouse for public tours via boats, and developing brochures and an exhibit at the Cape May-Lewes Ferry Terminal.
It is expected that the lighthouse will cost about $25,000 per year to maintain.
