Shown here from a late 1800’s issue of Harper’s New Monthly Magazine is an artist’s depiction of one of the two lighthouses in Skagen, Denmark, which is at the northernmost tip of the European continent.
Lighthouses were established here as far back as 1561. However, the current tower was built in 1900 and today serves as a tourist attraction.
The other lighthouse located in Skagen looks more like the typical lighthouse being a round stone tower built in 1858 that stands 151 feet high and was deactivated in 1900.
