We are searching for products that used a lighthouse in their logo or to help promote or sell an individual product.
Some of the most popular of the old time products were Lighthouse Cleanser Lighthouse Washing Powder and Lighthouse Soap, but there were many others such as Beacon Coffee, Lighthouse Coffee, and Light House Rolled Oats as shown here.
However, most of the packaging of these old products was thrown out after they were used. However, miraculously, a small number survived and can be found from time to time in antique stores as well as private collections.
Hopefully, readers of Lighthouse Digest can find and locate some of these old products or advertisements and donate them to the museum for its displays on how the lighthouse was used in advertising over the years to promote and sell products.
Shown here is an old box of Light House Rolled Oats that was distributed by National Grocer Co. of Detroit, Michigan. Hopefully one can be located for our collection.
It is hoped that people like you will help locate and secure these products and donate them to us. They can be mailed to our nonprofit: The Lighthouse History Research Institute, P.O. Box 250, East Machias, ME 04630
