On March 27, 2003, the cafeteria at the Dondero School in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, was packed with family and friends of the fourth grade students of Jan McManus. It was the third annual “Light Night,” and this year 17 students displayed the lighthouse models they had made out of cardboard tubes, plastic bottles and other materials. The students spent many hours working with art teacher Sarah Harrod on their models. On Light Night, each student also gave a report on the history of their chosen lighthouse.

After the reports were read at the Light Night event, the students sang the original song “The Lighthouse,” composed by their music teacher Diane McGee. The lights were then turned off and all present counted down from ten, and the working lights in the models were illuminated. Congratulations to Jan McManus, Sarah Harrod, the students and all involved with this wonderful program that is helping to train the “keepers of tomorrow.”
