Charlene McDonald of the Victory Life Academy in Durant, Oklahoma put together an In-House Field Trip with lighthouses as a theme.

The day began at 8:20 am with the Kindergarten class. The room was darkened and fog was added as a touch. The lighthouse beam was the only thing the students saw along with a strobe light for lighting effect. In the background, the students heard the sound of waves crashing against the shore and a foghorn in the distance. They were told that they were on board a ship trying to find its way in a storm looking for the lighthouse that would show them to safety. The effect was awesome as the students were taken into the room, so much so that the teacher became seasick.

The “trip” was an all day event for classes K through 8th grade. Many of these land-locked students had never see a lighthouse and were intrigued with the stories and material that was furnished to them. Although each class experienced the same entrance effect, each class sat through a different story of history.
