With all the attention focused on the Francis Scott Key Bridge since its recent collapse, our subscribers have been asking about the nearby Fort Carroll and its lighthouse. The fort and lighthouse have been privately owned since the late 1950s, when a Baltimore lawyer purchased it with a vision to put a casino on it. But the hexagonal island would never see any slot machines. Current owners are reportedly in discussions regarding the future of the Fort with its lighthouse. For over 100 years, Fort Carroll and its lighthouse have remained abandoned, located southeast of the Francis Scott Key Bridge. Despite the introduction of several development plans, nothing has ever come of them and the lighthouse remains on the Lighthouse Digest Doomsday List.
