Volunteers ferried a jeep and dump trailer to Little St. George Island at the end of February to begin salvaging of the pieces of the Cape St. George Light. About 1.5 tons of loose brick were recovered from the site and moved to a safe storage spot. The large pieces and the lantern room, now almost completely buried in sand, will be recovered by a contractor with government funding during the coming months.
