Photo Caption:
This rare photo of Petit Manan Lighthouse, Maine shows the 1855 tower and the remains of the original 53-foot tower of 1817. Three men posed on top of the bell tower for this photo, which is probably taken around 1860. It was from this light station that Leo Allen wrote his letter to school girl Louise Coates Hardie. The Petit Manan Lighthouse is still an active aid to navigation. Back to the edition of: May 2005
