West Quoddy Lighthouse keeper Howard Gray and his wife Sarah from a 1940 photograph taken atop Cadillac Mountain in nearby Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor, Maine. Howard Gray was the last keeper of the United States Lighthouse Service to serve at West Quoddy Head Light. He served as keeper at Boon Island Light from 1930 to 1932 and at West Quoddy Light from 1933 to 1952. When the Lighthouse Service was dissolved in 1939, keepers were given the choice to remain on as civilian keepers or join the Coast Guard. Gray joined the Coast Guard. (Lighthouse Digest archives)
