The author, Joseph Heim (left) sitting on the lap of Frederick A Edgecomb. Edgecomb had come to Hawaii in 1911, as an engineer. By 1930, he was the Superintendent of the 19th district of the United States Lighthouse Service. He later served as the Captain of the Port of Hono-lulu, and in 1942, he became the Commander of the 11th District of the United States Coast Guard. Others in the photo are the author's brother George, sister Annie, and the adult on the right is unknown.
