This is a rare photograph of the two keepers’ quarters at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. At right is the principal keeper’s house and at left is the double assistant keeper’s house. The picture was taken during a time when the light station was run as a visitors lodge by private individuals after the lighthouse was darkened in 1936 due to the threat of erosion. Both houses have been restored and were moved to the new location in 1999. Circa late 1930’s. Photo courtesy Annie Miller (Parker) Hodges.
