Photo Caption:

When Louis Wilks arrived in Jacobsville, Michigan in 1920 as the 3rd assistant keeper of the Portage River Lower Entrance Lighthouse, the new tower was still under construction and the old 1869 tower was still in place. When the new tower was completed, the old tower was placed on a barge and removed from the site. The lighthouse is also known as the Keweenaw Waterway Lower Entrance Lighthouse.
