Can you imagine riding one of these types of cycles, called a “penny-farthing,” or high-wheel bike, for any great distance as Max Hansmann often did? On one of those trips, Max Hansmann and fellow bicycle club members rode these bikes all the way from Washington, D.C. to Boston and back over roads that would be called cart tracks today.
