Photo Caption:

When Paul and Helen Baptiste arrived as Coast Guard keepers at Baker’s Island Lighthouse in 1946, Paul cut the top doors of the built-in kitchen cabinet shorter so that Helen could have an open space for the items shown. Shown to the right of the cabinet is the coal burning kitchen stove. Helen recalled that Paul was the only one who could keep it burning.
