The lighthouse looks miniscule compared to the size of the U.S. Navy destroyer. It is not uncommon to see U.S. Navy destroyers or other naval vessels sail past Squirrel Point Lighthouse and down the Kennebec River toward the Atlantic Ocean. The vessels come from Bath Iron Works, a division of General Dynamics, in Bath, Maine which for many years has built ships for the U.S. Navy. (Lighthouse Digest archives.)
