Constructed between 1882 and 1892, the St. George Reef Lighthouse cost in excess of $700,000 to build, making it the most expensive lighthouse of its time. Manned until 1975, it is now on the National Register of Historic Places. A volunteer group is in the process of restoring it with plans to open the lighthouse for public tours Back to the edition of: May 2000
