This vintage photo (circa 1940's) shows Coast Guard crew and family members posing at the Piedras Blancas Lighthouse. The photograph was donated by Norman Leon Francis, son of lighthouse keeper Norman Francis (1934-1948, including the transition years from the U.S. Lighthouse Service to the Coast Guard in 1939). Note the old Coast Guard van behind them. Boy, would we love to have one of those vans today. Back to the edition of: April 2000
