The cover of the December 30, 1965 edition of Treasure Chest, had a six page lay-out on the history of lighthouses, which was very informative, although it did have some glaring errors. The cover image of the lighthouse collapsing was supposed to be their dramatic rendition of Alaska’s Scotch Cap Lighthouse that was destroyed by a tsunami. However, the Scotch Cap Lighthouse did not look anything like their image, and the keepers were killed instantly when the lighthouse was destroyed.
Treasure Chest was a Catholic-oriented comic book series created by Dayton, Ohio publisher George A. Pflaum and distributed in parochial schools from 1946 to 1972. Its inspirational stories of sports and folk heroes, saints, school kids, Catholic living, history, science and similar topics, were drawn by prominent artists of the time.
