Head keeper Rasmus Petersen stands next to the entrance of Willapa Bay Lighthouse in 1897. According to Inspector Beck, Rasmus was given “several offers of transfers” which he turned down, but in 1906, he did request to be the keeper at the new Mukilteo Lighthouse where he could be “more in shelter and have things nice and in ship shape.” Unfortunately, the position went to another keeper, so Rasmus was content to stay and enjoy his ongoing social life at Willapa Bay Lighthouse until his death in 1913.(Lighthouse Digest archives) Back to the edition of: May/Jun 2023
