Photo Caption:

The Horton Point Lighthouse was abandoned after World War II and left to the elements and suffered from severe vandalism. The Southold Historical Society and Matt Booth, a member of the Southold Park District Commission, stepped forward to save the light station at the last minute from demolition. Once totally restored, it was opened as a seasonal museum to the public in 1977. (Lighthouse Digest archives photo by Christine Morton)
