Roscoe G. Lopaus is lighting the lamp at Minot’s Ledge Lighthouse in 1904. This photo was taken by journalist Arthur Hewitt and used in his article titled, “Signals of the Sea” which was published in the November 5, 1904 edition of The Outlook Magazine. Hewitt spent overnight at the light with Lopaus and 1st assistant Joseph E. Frates and wrote an account of what they had to do to tend the light daily.
