Tragically, 2nd assistant Marnal R. Newman, age 20, lost his life in 1908 at Saddleback Ledge Lighthouse in Maine when he left in the station boat during inclement weather and never returned. He was honored during our well-attended Grave Marker Placement Ceremony in 2016 where over 100 family members met to honor and place markers at the graves of 16 lighthouse keepers at Mount Height Cemetery in Southwest Harbor, Maine.
