Photo Caption:

Vintage image of Pumpkin Island Lighthouse with its original lantern. Initially, for some strange reason, the light station did not have a boat house, nor was the keeper allowed a government boat even though the lighthouse was located on an island. The lantern, shown here, on top of the tower, was removed in 1889 and a new lantern was installed which increased the overall height of the tower to its present twenty-eight feet.
