Justin A. Foss, pictured here, was in the peapod with Samuel when it overturned. Justin had begun his service at Libby Island Lighthouse as second assistant the same year Samuel drowned in 1918. He survived the incident and went on to serve another 14 years at Libby Island Light before transferring to Blue Hill Bay Lighthouse for two years. He then served at Cuckolds Lighthouse for five years and Goat Island Light for three years until 1942.
