The 1903 Oyster Bayou Lighthouse marked the entrance to the pass running between the Gulf and Atchafalaya Bay for the vessels bringing oysters to the packers in Morgan City. The lighthouse utilized a 5th order Fresnel lens and was automated in 1947. In 1975, the lantern was removed and replaced by a skeleton tower on adjacent piles until at least 2004. It is unknown when the lighthouse was actually demolished. Back to the edition of: May/Jun 2019
