Photo Caption:

Anacapa Island Lighthouse Station, California as it appeared in 1932 shortly after its completion. The lighthouse personnel stationed here, when not working, occupied their spare time fishing, hunting rabbits, playing board games, and having fun simply exploring the island’s many nooks and crevices. For many years their only contact with the outside world was the radio. Television did not arrive on the island until 1951. (Bureau of Lighthouses photo, Lighthouse Digest archives.)
