Mt. Desert Rock Lighthouse Station, operated and maintained by Allied Whale and College of the Atlantic, as is appeared before Hurricane Bill. Allied Whale and College of the Atlantic began whale research on the island in the late 1970s after the lighthouse was automated and leased to them. In 1998, under the Maine Lights Program, they were awarded ownership of the island and the entire lighthouse station. Back to the edition of: November 2009
