This past August, Carol Wall returned to Maine’s West Quoddy Head Lighthouse where her father was a Coast Guard keeper from 1954 to 1956.

Carol recalled that one year, when she was about five years old, it was time to paint the tower. Her father always liked to include her in activities around the lighthouse. On that day, he handed her a small paintbrush to let her paint the bottom stripes of the tower, which were the only ones she could reach. Carol recalled, “I am pretty sure that my father had to repaint every brushstroke that I painted.”
