A televised meeting between Maine’s Friends of Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, the City Manager of Rockland and concerned citizens to discuss the future of the historic lighthouse was held in Rockland last month. The general consensus of the meeting was that the lighthouse, which is now owned by the city, should be leased to the Friends of Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse so the group, which is raising the money to restore the lighthouse, could have more control over the restoration and the eventual use of the station. The group has raised about $100,000 of the $250,000 that is estimated it will need to restore the lighthouse. Recently, Harbour Lights also agreed to donate $5.00 from the sale of each Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse to the group. This in effect is a $32,000 donation. Also, Lighthouse Depot has agreed to donate $10 from each sale replica from its catalog and store. Donations for the lighthouse can be sent to, Friends of Rockland Breakwater Lighthouse, P.O. Box 741, Rockland, ME 04841.
