The Bristol Ferry Lighthouse in Bristol, Rhode Island has been sold and it now has a new owner.
In 1999, the lighthouse was for sale for $469,000. But that was then, and the now restored lighthouse has increased significantly in value since then. The owners were now asking $750,000. But, after an apparent bidding war, the lighthouse ended up selling for $805,000.
When the Mount Hope Bridge was built in 1928-29, its northern end covered and replaced the lighthouse as an aid to navigation. Built in 1855, the lighthouse is now nearly hidden beneath the bridge to everyone but boaters and shore fishermen.
The nearly 1,300-square-foot home features two bedrooms and one-and-a-half bathrooms. The lighthouse offers panoramic views of Narraganset and Mt. Hope bays and is surrounded by lovingly tended gardens. It was sold by Mott & Chace Sotheby’s International Realty.
