From a distance, Ned’s Point Lighthouse, located in a picturesque location in Mattapoisett, Massachusetts, may look in good condition, but closer examination reveals the interior of the stone masonry tower needs lots of attention.

The tower was somewhat restored in 2011, but apparently most of that work, other than the replacement of the tower’s door, was largely cosmetic. In October of this year, vandals broke into the lighthouse, destroying the lock, which now needs to be replaced.

Age and time have caught up to interior. The iron railings around the lantern are literally rusting away with decay, the inside of the tower has peeling lead paint, and there are bullet holes in the lantern’s glass caused by vandals.
