The Chesapeake Chapter of the U.S. Lighthouse Society has placed an outdoor placard at the Fort Smallwood Park in Pasadena, Maryland to provide historical information to the general public about the endangered Fort Carroll Lighthouse.
Fort Carroll Lighthouse was built in 1898 on the island fort in the Patapsco River in Baltimore, Maryland. It was deactivated in the mid-1940s and has been on the Lighthouse Digest Doomsday List of Endangered Lighthouses for 26 years and has been featured several times in the pages of this magazine. The fact that the lighthouse is still standing is a miracle unto itself.
The sign was paid for by the Chesapeake Chapter, but was installed for free by the staff of the park.
