The 115-foot-tall Pigeon Point Lighthouse in Pescadero, California that has been closed to public tours for nearly 20 years is getting $9.1 million toward the $16 million that it will take to fully restore the 1872 lighthouse. The $9.1 million was recently approved in the state budget as part of deferred parks maintenance funds.
The initial restoration phase calls for the removal of the top one-third of the tower, which has been listed as in “critical condition.” It is expected that the project will take about a year. If the additional $7 million is raised, which is expected, the final phase of the restoration could be completed by 2022.
