Minot’s Ledge Lighthouse, known around the world as “The Lover’s Lighthouse,” has been sold under the guidelines of the National Historic Lighthouse Preservation Act of 2000 through a government on-line auction for $222,000. Located in the waters off the coast of Cohasset and Scituate, Massachusetts, the lighthouse was completed 1860 to replace an earlier tower that was destroyed in a storm in April of 1851 resulting in the deaths of two assistant lighthouse keepers.

The 1-4-3 flash of the beacon in the tower has been interpreted for years as “I Love You,” thus, the nickname of “The Lover’s Light.”
