Florida’s 1859 Pensacola Lighthouse in Pensacola, known as the “City of Five Flags” and home to the U.S. Navy’s Blue Angels, is getting a major makeover.
This major undertaking to repair cracks in the tower, replace mortar, blasting old paint off, and repainting the tower, will help ensure the longevity of the historic structure.
Recently, Florida’s Governor Rick Scott presented the Pensacola Lighthouse and Museum with the Governor’s Innovation and Expansion in Tourism and Hospitality Award in a Major Market. The group has increased visitation to the lighthouse from 8,000 people in 2009, to more than 150,000 people in 2013. They are to be congratulated for their efforts to save and preserve the Pensacola Lighthouse for future generations.
