California’s The Point Arena Lighthouse Keepers (PALKI) has received a reservation of funding for $235,000 from the California Cultural and Historical Endowment (CCHE). This will enable the Light Keepers to put the finishing touches on their $1.7 million renovation that started in 2006 with a Planning Grant from CCHE and subsequently a project grant in the amount of $1.2 million from CCHE. The funds from the Endowment coupled with matching funds from the non-profit have gone a long ways toward saving the 115 ft. concrete Lighthouse tower a unique historical treasure as well as preserving the 23 acre coastal site.
Jim Platt, President of the Board of Directors of PALKI said, “We saw the need to move from caretakers of a Light Station to realizing the Station not only needed to be a thriving business to survive; but big time outside funding was needed to save the 101-year old coastal treasure. With incredible support from the coastal communities and a dedicated group of volunteers, we have nailed both these needs,”
The Point Arena Lighthouse Keepers have to meet a 60% matching funds requirement, $141,000, to secure the grant monies and can always use you donations.
