Efforts have been started for plans to build a replica of Michigan’s Petoskey Pier Lighthouse that was destroyed by a storm back in 1924.
Local residents Gordon & Carolyn Bourland, along with help from the Great Lakes Lighthouse Keeper’s Association have gained the interest of the Emmet County Board
of Commissioners, (known for its outstanding efforts with McGulpin Point Lighthouse) the Emmet County Historical Commission and the Little Traverse Historical Society.
Currently the site is occupied by a nondescript cylindrical steel tower that looks nothing like a lighthouse. Located on the shores of Little Traverse Bay, the town is named after the Ottawa Native American Chief Petosega, which meant “Rays of the Rising Sun.”
