Thousands of people visit the Cape Neddick “Nubble” Light every year near York Beach, Maine. Many of the visitors have also dined at the Lighthouse Restaurant adjacent to Sohier Park, across from the lighthouse. For over 50 years people have been able to sit and enjoy a meal while gazing out at the Atlantic Ocean and the Nubble Light. On September 6, 2004, the restaurant closed its doors forever. Private homes will soon be built on the property.
Cheryl and Marty Flood have owned the establishment since 1988. Over the years they have seen many interesting people. “Connie Small (author of The Lighthouse Keeper’s Wife) has joined us for a meal many times over the years,” says Cheryl. “ When I saw her last year she had just turned 102,” she adds.
“We have seen quite a few proposals in the dining room.” says Cheryl. There have been many interesting questions asked of the Floods, like, “What lake is this?” and “What time does the fog go away?”
Marty and Cheryl also have this statement for their fans: “We would like to thank the hundreds of regular customers and the many thousands of other customers for their patronage over the past 16 years. We will miss socializing with everyone and hearing the stories that they shared with us each year.”
