Shown here is the fog bell from the Bridgeport Harbor Lighthouse in Connecticut. Dr. William Baker of Connecticut acquired the bell and the original striking mechanism from the family of the marine disposal company that removed the light when it burned down in the mid 1950’s.

Dr. Baker restored the striking mechanism and automated the bell to ring hourly outside his Connecticut home.

The American Lighthouse Foundation is trying to document with photographs the locations of fog bells that once served at lighthouses. Photographs and information can be sent to the Lighthouse History Research Institute, PO Box 250, East Machias, ME 04630.
