Neil Corbett (r) takes a moment during the Awards Ceremony to pose with Morton Soule who gave a magnificent performance to the attendees of the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame Awards of the famous poem, "Casey at the Bat." Written by Ernest Thayer, "Casey at the Bat," first appeared in print on June 3, 1888 but was made famous by William deWolf Hopper, a New York singer and monologist, who was reported to have recited it on stage an amazing 10,000 times. Clearly visible on Soule's uniform is the name "Mudville." Back to the edition of: August 2002
