In the visitors center that is a bookstore and museum are Alana Race, John Gaskill, and Connie Jones. The bookstore is in the south side of the double keepers quarters at the station. This room was formerly John’s family’s kitchen while his father, Vernon Gaskill, Sr., was primary keeper (1919-1940). For the past several years, John has been “on call” for Connie at the bookstore to rescue her from hundreds of visitors. Many times John has hurried over from his home to open the lighthouse door and answer dozens of questions about the lightstation; what it was like to grow up at the lighthouse, and how he painted the entire lighthouse in 1934.
