William Edward “Bill” Quidley was assistant keeper at Cape Hatteras Lighthouse from 1928-1934. Known as a perfect gentleman, he always had his pipe close at hand as is shown in this photograph courtesy of Sabra (Gray) Jennette. During his time at the lighthouse the station was threatened by erosion and the Lighthouse Service was looking for a new location to display the lighthouse. Back to the edition of: May 2001
